FAQs

What is a custom cake anyway?

A custom cake is any cake that goes beyond regular cake decoration. This includes fondant, handmade 3D toppers or designs, flowers, etc. Wedding cakes and tiered cakes are custom cakes.

Why does a custom cake cost so much?

Well, this is not your regular grocery store cake… the quality of our work and the time we put in to consulting, sourcing ingredients and materials, baking (not just pulling your cake out of a warehouse freezer), icing, decorating, hand-making items, and delivering goes above and beyond anything you will find at the grocery store.

Do I need to order ahead or can I just come in and buy?

At this time, we do not have a storefront, and so we do not have anything for you to come by and pick up. All of our cakes, cupcakes, and desserts are baked to order and must be pre-ordered.

How soon should I order my cake?

It is never too early to order a cake! We are currently booking about 3 weeks in advance, but give us a call as shorter time frames may be available. Please note, orders accepted within 7 days may incur a rush fee. In general, even if you don’t quite know what you want, reserve a place on our calendar as soon as possible.

Wedding cakes should be ordered 4-6 months before your big day. During peak wedding season, our reservations fill fast, so booking early will ensure you won’t run into scheduling conflicts.

How do I place my order?

You may email us (loveandconfection@outlook.com), call us (240-780-2046), or fill out an inquiry form under “contact us” on our website (loveandconfectionllc.com). In any case, please leave us your contact information, and as much detail as possible regarding event date, number of servings, occasion, style, theme, or colors, and cake/dessert budget.

I sent an email, when will I hear back?

Although we try our best to reply within 24 hours, in general, you should hear back within 48 hours. Keep in mind that we are extremely busy on weekends and our priority at that time is to get your beautiful custom cakes out the door.

Why do I need to place a deposit for my cake?

Once you place your order and make a deposit or payment, your order is reserved on our calendar. It is then that we begin sourcing ingredients and materials, hand-making decorative items, and even turning down other orders to ensure that your order meets our highest quality standard. Many times these items are specifically for your order and cannot be used for another order or at a later date.

**Orders are not confirmed until the initial deposit/payment is paid. If deposit or payment is not made by the due date, your order will be subject to cancellation.

Can you duplicate a cake?

We can use an inspiration picture to design your cake. However, because we do not know the exact colors or tools used, we cannot duplicate a cake.

Do you deliver?

Yes. For wedding cakes, delivery and set-up is included in the cost of your cake. For other cakes, delivery is calculated based on distance and time.

Do you offer cake tastings?

For wedding cakes, we offer one-hour consultation and tasting appointments. This can be done in person, or you may pick up a tasting box and conduct the consultation virtually. The cost for our tasting is $25 for two people.

Do I need to refrigerate my cake? And how long does my cake stay fresh?

Buttercream cakes should be refrigerated and brought to room temperature about 1 hour before serving. Fondant cakes do not require refrigeration but should remain in a cool area until time to serve. Optimal room temperature for any cake is 70 degrees or below. Neither buttercream nor fondant cakes can sit outside in warm temperatures for an extended period of time.

Do you offer gluten-free products?

No, at this time we do not offer gluten-free products. We take gluten allergies seriously, and because we do not have a separate gluten-free kitchen/appliances, we do not provide these items.

Are your products suitable for those with specific food allergies?

Please let us know if you have food allergies! Our kitchen processes items with milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soy. It is impossible to guarantee that certain allergens have not come into contact with utensils used to make your desserts (even if you have selected flavors that do not include a particular ingredient). Please contact us with inquiries regarding the inclusion of specific allergens in our recipes.
